Tiger King

In a world taken over by a pandemic, people are, of course, trying to find ways to cope. There are a lot of things to turn to during this time, but among all of these ways to cope, binge watching remains among one of the most popular ways to do so. Currently, the show of choice is Netflix's Tiger King

Now, I have never watched Tiger King, but I hear or read about it some capacity everyday. I would be lying if I said it didn't peak my interest in the least. Will I ever watch it? Not sure.

It is a 2020 American true crime documentary about Joe Exotic, a zookeeper. Supposedly, it follows the stories of deeply connected and little-known "big cat conservationists" and collectors, and apparently, Exotic is accused if abusing these wild animals. The story takes wild turns for former cocaine drug lords running secret conservation facilities, swingers for sneak into fancy hotels to get the attention of women, and even more. Without listing spoilers, this true story ends up taking twists and turns down paths of murder, disappearances of people, protests and lawsuits.

Netflix's description of the show says "A zoo owner spirals out of control amid a cast of eccentric characters in this true murder-for-hire story from the underworld of cat breeding."

No wonder this show is all the craze. It seems to be taking the edge off of the worries and stresses of the world pandemic. It's enough crazy to distract from real-life stress.

It is currently ranked #1 in the U.S. today, and has already become one of the most-watched original programs in Netflix's history. The series has an approval rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 7.88/10.

Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus says, "A bizarre true crime story you have to see to believe, Tiger King is a messy and captivating portrait of obsession gone terribly wrong." Variety magazine says that the show is "messy yet compelling" and that "those who love Netflix's particular flavor of true crime docuseries, Tiger King will undoubtedly scratch a particular itch."

Tiger King has already been watched by 34.3 million people within its first 10 days of release.

Celebrities from Mike Tyson to Shaquille O'Neal were somehow involved in the cases and have spoken out about it as well.

The current ordeal with Tiger King is that in the middle of our world crisis, a reporter asked President Trump about it. Apparently, Trump's son, Don, joked about it a few days ago, and a reporter took that and ran with it. A reporter asked Trump if he would consider pardoning Joe Exotic of his crimes and Trump said that he would "look at" pardoning him after his 22-year prison sentence. Trump said he watched the show, but he was not exactly sure what he was charged with. Trump was just humoring the reporter and seems to have no intentions of actually looking into it. He was grinning and seemed to be humored by the question. It seems crazy to so many people that this is something that was brought up in the middle of the chaos of our world pandemic.

And of course, to no one's surprise, people have taken to Twitter to discuss the ordeal:
