7. Binge Watching

Because What Else Do You Do During a Global Pandemic?

I have definitely had my share of shows that I work my way through - some faster than others. I am no stranger to binge-watching, but I would think my description of binge-watching is slightly different than others. I typically do not sit down all day and watch a show for hours on end. My version of binge-watching is more so me getting ready to go to bed at night and have a show playing and then I finally get in bed and maybe watch one or two more episodes. That's really the extent of it to me! If not that, then I'm working on something while watching. Rarely am I ever just sitting down on the couch watching a show while doing nothing else.

All of this to say, I decided I would rank the most binge-worthy shows that I have watched in the past couple of years. I will preface this by saying that I'm not a huge fan of action movies/shows. My favorite genres are typically comedy, drama and mystery (bonus points if it's a combination of the three).

This brings me to show number 1:

Jane the Virgin is the perfect combination of humor, drama and love, and a good bit of mystery. It also can be a really feel good show. If I ever had to binge-watch a show I have already watched, it would hands-down be Jane the Virgin. Every single time. The show can be deceiving from the outside (which is why it took me so long to ever watch it) because it looks cheesy and predictable. It is anything BUT cheesy and predictable! It's funny, exciting, romantic, mysterious and so much more.

This one is probably slightly peculiar for someone my age. Desperate Housewives first aired in 2004, so I would've been 5-years-old at the time. It did not end until 2012, though. I started watching it last year because my mom talked me into it. It's so addicting! The first episode had me hooked when a suicide happens in nearly the first scene. I wasn't sure what to expect but that was not it. This show is similar (but also sooo different) to Jane the Virgin in the way that it has all of my favorite components - humor, mystery and comedy. I believe this is the perfect make-up to any show.

Now this is a show I haven't watched since high school, but it is so good. It definitely is timeless. There's a reason so many people adore it. It is a pretty wholesome and feel-good show following a girl and her mom. It's funny because the mom is pretty off-the-wall and the daughter is pretty straight-laced. It has the right amount of humor and romance and cliffhangers and love triangles to make any romance-lover hooked on it.

Okay, before you think it, I KNOW this is basic. But the reason why this is a basic answer is because it is so true. What makes The Office such a binge-worthy show is the ability to pick up literally anywhere in the middle of it. There are 9 seasons, and any given person that has a general idea of what the show is about could decide to watch season 6, episode 14 and probably jump right into the episode and not be confused at all. It's funny, light-hearted and is the perfect show to watch or have on in the background while working on something else. It's something to watch when you've had a bad day or you're trying to get your mind off of something.

Okay, no one come for me on this one, please. This is a great show! The premise is really, really interesting, and if you're like me, and you love drama and mystery, this is the show for you. Every single episode leaves you on a cliffhanger. It's so hard to only watch one. I probably never only watched just one. That's what makes this show the perfect show to binge-watch. The characters are so likable and so well written. This will forever be one of my all time favorite shows.

I feel like this is a pretty solid list I could give to any friend. Maybe not just anyone but people my age especially could probably appreciate this list since my demographic definitely falls within the target market for these shows. I am constantly seeing people asking for show recommendations all over social media these days, so this is the list I would give them.
