2. Programming Trends

Netflix's Biggest Rival

It's no secret that the once reigning streaming service, Netflix, now has a few strong rivals. One of the biggest of them all as of recently is Disney+. In just less than 3 months, Disney has gained 28.6 million subscribers to their brand new streaming site. To say it has been a success is a huge understatement. Some media analysts have gone as far as to say that it has been "one of the greatest product launches of all time."

Not only does Disney+ have all of the classics, but it also has movies that will cater towards more mature audiences such as Marvel movies, Star Wars series and more. They're even enticing viewers with news like "a Loki series featuring Tom Hiddleston is coming in the spring next year."

Disney+ is also being competitive with Netflix's monthly prices. While Netflix charges $8.99/month, Disney+ sits pretty with $6.99/month. I hadn't even really heard of Disney+ until a couple of weeks before it was supposed to launch, and everyone was already counting down the days until its release. Almost everyone I knew had subscribed to the streaming service within a day.

I don't necessarily think one is better than the other, but I will say that as big of a Disney fan as I am, I am probably more prone to watching Netflix because of the bigger variety of movies and shows that it has on it. If you watch Disney+, you almost have to have a super specific idea of what you want to watch because it is more limiting to what it has on there.

People have raved about how much they love Disney+ because, like what has become popular with other streaming sites, Disney has their own original content that can only be viewed on Disney+. It seems as though there have been little to no complaints about Disney+ so far.

Disney+ is definitely one of the biggest programming trends lately and it doesn't look like it is going away any time soon. It is competitive, reasonably priced, and the value is there.
